Theme & Character Lists: Alien Biology
Creating aliens with different biologies than ours can provide
feminists a useful way to explore the biological bases of behavior, or
just wierd sex scenes ...
- Asimov, Isaac. The Gods Themselves (1972) (a 3-sexed
species)
- Busby, F. M. The Alien Debt (1984) (a 3-sexed
species)
- Octavia Butler's
Xenogenesis trilogy: Dawn, Adulthood Rites, and Imago
- Carr, Jayge. Leviathan's Deep (1979)
- Delany, Samuel. The Einstein Intersection
(1967) (3-sexed species)
- Grae, Camarin. Stranded (1991, Naiad) (3 women from a
hermaphroditic species are sent as "disembodied minds" to Earth to stop a
villain. They end up identifying as lesbians and fighting a fundamentalist
movement led by the villain. The story doesn't particularly dwell on their
earlier bodies.)
- Gwyneth Jones'
White Queen
- Varley, John. The Gaean Trilogy: Titan, Wizard,
and Demon. See particularly Wizard for an explanation of
the Titanides' reproduction.
