The lead character, Friday, is one of a number of children who are genetically engineered, bred artificially, raised in creches with other artificial children, and then discriminated against as adults. It's not the major method of child creation, certainly, but common enough to have an impact on society.

Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time - In this future possible utopia on earth, women have given up the ability to bear children in order to achieve equality. Children are raised in artificial wombs, and then a nursing parent - male or female - takes hormones to produce milk.
